Quantifying Vegetation Vulnerability to Climate Variability in China

چکیده

Climate variability has profound effects on vegetation. Spatial distributions of vegetation vulnerability that comprehensively consider sensitivity and resilience are not well understood in China. Furthermore, the combination cumulative climate a one-month-lagged autoregressive model represents an advance technical approach for calculating sensitivity. In this study, spatiotemporal characteristics to were investigated at seasonal scales. Further analysis explored spatial different regions. The results showed distribution pattern exhibited heterogeneity spring, values approximately 0.9 mainly distributed northern Xinjiang Inner Mongolia, while low scattered Yunnan Province central region East highest proportion severe was observed subhumid zone (28.94%), followed by arid (26.27%). summer autumn, proportions humid zones higher than those other zones. Regarding types, found sparse seasons, slight croplands seasons. addition, with high is prone change Northeast Southwest Although ecological restoration projects have been implemented increase cover China, region. Most grasslands, which concentrated Qinghai–Tibet Plateau, had vulnerability. Vegetation areas likely be degraded highly vulnerable Plateau could function as warning signals degradation. Knowledge patterns will help provide scientific guidance regional environmental protection.

Quantifying Regional Vegetation Cover Variability in North China during the Holocene: Implications for Climate Feedback

Validating model simulations of vegetation-climate feedback needs information not only on changes in past vegetation types as reconstructed by palynologists, but also on other proxies such as vegetation cover. We present here a quantitative regional vegetation cover reconstruction for North China during the Holocene. The reconstruction was based on 15 high-quality lake sediment profiles selecte...

Accepted Article Climate Variability and Vulnerability to Climate Change: a Review Running Head: Climate Variability and Vulnerability Climate Variability and Vulnerability to Climate Change: a Review

The focus of the great majority of climate change impact studies is on changes in mean climate. In terms of climate model output, these changes are more robust than changes in climate variability. By concentrating on changes in climate means, the full impacts of climate change on biological and human systems are probably being seriously underestimated. Here we briefly review the possible impact...

Climatic variability and vegetation vulnerability in Amazônia

[1] Models of climate change predict close coupling between increases in aridity and conversion of Amazonian forests to savanna. Here we assess the vulnerability and resilience of Amazonian vegetation to climate change by analyzing observed climate-vegetation relationships using climate data, observed vegetation distributions, and evapotranspiration rates inferred from eddy flux data. We found ...

Modernization, Climate Variability and Vulnerability to Famines

From 1876 to 1879 and from 1896 to 1902 due to absence of monsoons related to El Nino events, India experienced the two worst famines of all times. Karl Polanyi explained the millions of fatalities as a consequence of the introduction of market prices by British colonial institutions, in areas where traditional agricultural societies had kept significant stocks in rainy seasons in order to comp...
